 Planet Earth is now in its 2^nd year of preparing for Earth humans to ascend to the 5^th dimension or higher and participate in co-creating the New Earth.  The Divine Plan is that Earth humans create a Galactic Society and become a member of the Galactic Federation of Light.

Because the Divine Plan is unfolding on Earth, we can expect that leaders who are capable of leading our planet in making this transition would be in some of the powerful leadership positions at the present time.

These leaders would have agreed to the task at hand in their pre-incarnation Soul Mission Contract.  They—as all of us do—are using skills well developed in prior incarnations throughout the cosmos.  (This is one of the many concepts of which all of us will become consciously aware in the coming months … our lives extend throughout the cosmos.  We are all Star Beings.  The world in which we have existed for millions/billions of years is much larger than we have been taught.)

My intuitive sense is that Vladimir Putin is also one such leader.    To state that Obama and Putin are leaders in the unfolding Divine Plan is not to say they have attained perfection or that they always behave in every aspect of life in accordance with Divine Will.  Both had to incarnate into a very imperfect, chaotic world and work their way to positions of power within our imperfect world.  Obama’s Soul Mission includes being president of one of three locations on the planet where the Dark Cabal are most populous, resulting in unrelenting opposition to his efforts.  Putin’s Soul Mission includes being president of a former great nation suffering from the damaging results of World War II and the reign of Communism.

In addition, until the New World Order cabal is removed, both leaders are forced to lead without full knowledge and a cabal desperately attempting to create World War III so they can remain in power.  Once Truth is known, we will see that nothing has been as it seemed.  It is for this reason that I ask you to read Putin’s Sabian Symbol Interpretation with an open mind.

The question is not:  Are they perfect?  The question is:  Are they consciously/unconsciously working in the best way they know how to assist Earth humans in co-creating an ascended, galactic culture for the New Earth?

Esoteric Astrology is the only scientific/intuitive means of determining who these men are at the Soul level.  As a former professional counselor who used the esoteric astrological natal chart as a counseling tool, I found the Sabian symbols to be extremely accurate.  The natal chart is based on complicated mathematical calculations … the Sabian symbols are intuitive interpretations of each of the 360 degrees within the circle of the natal chart.

Dan Rudhyar, the astrologer who wrote the book I am using, had this to say about the Sabian symbols and how they were originally interpreted in 1925 by clairvoyant, Elsie Wheeler, with the recording assistance of astrologer, Marc Edmund Jones.

“Not only was the procedure entirely aleatory [random] as far as the normal consciousness of the two participants was concerned, but the amazing thing is that the 360 symbols were obtained during a few hours in the morning, and a few hours during the afternoon….  What makes this whole production almost incredible is that while it operated purely at random and at a fantastic speed, the result was a series of symbols which, when carefully studied, are shown to possess a definite and very complex internal structure….  It is not enough merely to say that “they work.”  What has to be clearly understood is the nature of their validity and what is really implied in their existence and character….  It is obvious that the scenes and images visualized by Elsie Wheeler are entirely modern and, what is more, in many instances strictly American in character….  They belong to the collective consciousness of the average educated American.” [i]

Recognizing that the symbols have an American flavor, let’s see what we can learn about Putin from this totally objective source—meaning that he has no personal input whatsoever.  I have footnoted the majority of astrological statements made in addition to the Sabian symbol information in order to render this interpretation as objective as possible.

Putin’s 11th house cusp is located on the 24th degree of Virgo.  The 11th house relates to friends, political activities, hopes and dreams for the world at large, World Servers, spiritual visions and aspirations. [ii]

The Sabian symbol for the 24th degree of Virgo:  *Mary and Her Little Lamb.*

Symbol’s Keynote:  *The need to keep a vibrant and pure simplicity at the core of one’s being as one meets the many tests of existence.*

Rudhyar’s Symbol Interpretation:  “Though great, spectacular, and resolute efforts are needed in order to achieve one’ highest goals of destiny, still the essential quality as one journeys on ‘The Path’ is a pure, spontaneous, fresh and nonviolent approach to all encounters.  This of course is Jesus’ entreaty to his disciples–that they should be like ‘little children.’  Without such a deep, heartfelt simplicity the seeker after spiritual experiences or Initiations is bound to find himself glamorized by his own successes, and to see his ego feeding on the drama of struggle and victory.”

Symbol’s Keyword:  *INNOCENCE – presents us with a subtle hint of technique.  Beyond individual prowess and social eminence, the individual whose innocence is fixed upon spiritual realization should genuinely radiate INNOCENCE.*

Vera Gurevich – Putin’s Elementary School Teacher

               “From first and eighth grade, Vladimir Putin studied at School No. 193. As he recalls, he was a troublemaker, not a Pioneer.

His teacher, Vera Gurevich, recalls, “In the fifth grade, he still hadn’t found himself yet, but I could feel the potential, the energy and the character in him. I saw that he had a great deal of interest in language; he picked it up easily. He had a very good memory and an agile mind.

I thought, something good will come of this boy, so I decided to give him more attention, to distract him from the boys on the streets.”

Until the sixth grade, Vladimir Putin was not very interested in studying, but his teacher Vera Gurevich saw that he could do better and get higher grades.

She met with his father asking him to influence his son. It did not help much, but Vladimir Putin himself radically changed his attitude toward his studies when he was in the sixth grade.

In the sixth grade, Vladimir Putin decided that he needed to achieve something in life, so he began getting good grades, which came easily to him. He was allowed to join the Young Pioneers organisation, and almost immediately became the head of a Pioneer detachment in his class. ” [iv]

In esoteric astrology, the Sun represents Soul awareness and living from the Soul level, plus the skills/talents brought into the present incarnation to be used in living out the Soul mission.  Putin, as a Libra, possesses the skill for diplomacy, fairness, and law (he graduated from Leningrad State University Law Department in 1975[v]).  Hidden beneath LIBRA’s calm, relaxed energy is an outstanding capacity to move out into the world with a sense of refinement, executive mindset, and innovation that holds the potential to greatly benefit humankind.   On the personality level, Libra is ruled by Venus, granting a love of the arts and nature’s beauty. Uranus rules the soul level of Libra, as well as the 11^th house—in which his Sun is located—giving Putin a strong urge to innovate and to be metaphysically inclined.  Putin’s Sun located in the 11^th house announces he incarnated to shine as a global leader or, World Server.

Putin’s Sun is located on the 13^th degree 55 minutes of Libra in the 11^th house.  The 11^th house represents his dreams for the world at large.  Since the location of his Sun is nearing the cusp of the 14^th degree, we’ll look at both Sabian symbols.

The Sabian symbol for the 13^th degree of Libra is *Children blowing soap bubbles.*

Symbol Keynote:  *The cultural fantasies through which young minds dream of perfect fulfillment.*

Rudhyar’s Symbol interpretation:  “This seems to refer to the use of the imagination and the value of fantasy in a collective setup.  Men[vi] dream together as a preparation for acting together.  Rituals related to the great aspirations of mankind are both sacred ceremonies and playthings for young minds; so also are court ceremonies and operas for the social elite, or baseball games for the crowds.  Some men work hard at acquiring knowledge and providing society with what it needs to enjoy warmth and lighted palaces; others play at imagining themselves perfect spheres of multicolored radiance—soap bubbles so soon proven evanescent!”

Symbol Keyword:  *IMAGINATIVE PLAY, which foreshadows the idea of ‘global man,’ the man of plenitude.*

The Sabian Symbol for the 14^th degree of Libra is *In the heat of the noon hour a man takes a siesta.*

Symbol Keynote:  *The need for recuperation within the social pattern of everyday activity.*

Rudhyar’s Symbol Interpretation:  “At the emotional-cultural level man today is not able to sustain constant activity.  There must be rest periods, sietas or coffee breaks, during which the individual withdraws within his own sphere of selfhood, not only for physical relaxation but for allowing the strange, but evidently necessary play of dream fantasies.  Social structuring cannot be maintained healthfully without breaks, in whatever climate man may live.  Besides, the body needs quiet and relaxation from nervous tension after what is often the main meal of the day.”

Symbol Keyword:  *RELAXATION – the need to allow the functions of body and psyche to “digest,” free from external pressures, the complex experiences of social living and particularly of business.*

 Sun in Libra in the 11^th house = playing while envisioning his dreams for the world.

“Vladimir Putin manages to find the time for holidays, away from running the country. But because it happens very rarely, he tries to spend his short holidays as efficiently as possible. He firmly believes that a change of activity is the best kind of rest.” [vii]

Studying the Sabian symbols of a chart means looking at the symbols for each degree activated in the natal chart by a planet, house cusp, and other parts such as the North Node.  As you will see, looking at just the few degrees activated out of all 360 degrees will tell the story of the individual.

Beginning with Putin’s Sun in Libra indicating one who has dreams for the world and who possesses the capacity to envision and create on the world scene, we will move counterclockwise around his natal chart.

Americans, in particular, have been taught to think of Putin & Russia as an “enemy.”  I hope that you will allow this document to reveal the story of a man who has dedicated his life to restoring Russia to its former greatness!

“In his inauguration speech [of 2000] he said, “We have common aims, we want our Russia to be a free, prosperous, flourishing, strong and civilized country, a country that its citizens are proud of and that is respected internationally.” He added that he would be guided solely by the interests of the state. “Perhaps it will not be possible to avoid mistakes, but what I can promise and what I do promise is that I will work openly and honestly,” Putin said. Putin has a stellium in Libra in the 12^th house, rendering this energy very powerful in his personality make-up and indicating that he is now using much that he learned prior to his present incarnation, whether on this planet or elsewhere in the cosmos.

His 12^th house cusp is located on the 17^th degree of Libra.  The 12^th house signifies the unconscious, what we have experienced in prior lifetimes, and work that may be done behind closed doors (Putin worked for several years as an Intelligence Officer with the KGB—“a government security agency that was formed during the Soviet era. The KGB’s responsibilities also included the protection of the country’s political leadership, the supervision of border troops, and the general surveillance of the population.  It was in operation from 1954 to 1991, when Communist rule ended in Russia)[ix].

In addition, Putin’s Saturn is exact conjunct his 12^th house cusp.

According to Alan Oken in his Soul-Centered Astrology, there are two planetary rulers of the New Aquarian Age—Saturn and Uranus, with Saturn giving a tendency toward uniformity  at the more materialistic level [the 3^rd dimensional level on which Earth humans resided until December 2012 when we ascended to the 4^th dimension on our way to the 5^th dimension] … and … Uranus, which urges Earth humans to operate with unanimity or the state of being one soul [to function as a Unity of One in Love].

The Saturnian uniformity rule of Communism ended in Russia on 12/25/91.  Thus Putin lived his first 39 years under a Saturnian form of government.  His presidency during the transition to the New Aquarian Age has thus far seen many changes within what is now the Russian Federal Presidential Republic.

Saturn, on the personal level, is our disciplinarian.  Metaphysically, Saturn is the Rainbow Bridge from our lower mind—the intellect—to our Higher or Intuitive Mind.  Saturn makes sure we have developed the self-discipline needed to effectively ascend to Soul-Centered Consciousness.

The Sabian symbol for the 17^th degree of Libra is *A retired sea captain watches ships entering and leaving the harbor.*

Symbol Keynote:  *The capacity to gain an objective and calm understanding of human experiences in which one was once deeply involved.*

Rudhyar’s Symbol Interpretation:  “Old age may or may not bring to man this objective and calm understanding as one remembers the crises overcome and the quiet enjoyment of great life vistas or ‘peak experiences,’ but wisdom and inner serenity can hardly develop save on the basis of the overcoming of struggles and conflicts.  The sea captain’ sailed his ship through storms and still waters of consciousness, his mind perhaps battered by gales, his ego-crew perhaps in revolt.  Now there is peace and quietude.  Another generation is sailing seas better charted perhaps, yet inherently nonrational and at times savage in their fury.  He watches.  He knows.  Others are learning.  At any age the ego-will may ‘retire’ and contemplate, and be at peace before a greater voyage over even more poorly charted seas.”

Symbol Keyword:  *CALM MIND – we see a picture of true overcoming of storms, in polar opposition to the preceding one [meaning the preceding symbol, which does not relate to Putin] which revealed the destructive effect of psychic upheavals tearing apart the occult link—the antakarana—between the incarnate consciousness and the transcendent Soul-field, the CALM MIND beyond struggles and victories.*

 Because both Putin’s 12^th house cusp and his Saturn in the 12^th house are both located on this 17^th degree of Libra, I view this as a strong indication that a CALM MIND is a well developed skill brought in from prior lifetimes.

“Vladimir Putin firmly believes that martial arts teach such knowledge, abilities and skills that every politician needs. Putin believes that judo trains both your body and your mind. It develops strength, reaction, endurance, teaches self-control, the ability to feel the moment, to see the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses, to strive for the best results and constantly work on improving oneself.

Putin has been practicing judo since he was 11 years old. “I was just a boy when I started judo. I became deeply interested in martial arts, their special philosophy, culture, relations with the opponent and the rules of combat,” says Putin, who holds the title of Master of Sports in judo. In September 2006 he became the honorary president of the European Judo Union, and in 2010 he received an honorary doctorate in judo from South Korea’s Yong In university.” [x]

Putin’s Neptune is on the 21^st degree of Libra in his 12^th house.  Neptune is a very mystical planet; it aids us in making a connection with our Soul and achieving the Christ Consciousness.

The Sabian symbol for the 21^st degree of Libra:  *A Sunday crowd enjoying the beach.*

Symbol Keynote:  *A revivifying contact with the Mother-force of nature and of social togetherness.*

Rudhyar’s Symbol Interpretation:  “The sea is the vast matrix from which living organisms originally emerged.  It also symbolizes the collective Unconscious, the ‘matricial’ envelope of the biosphere within which consciousness takes individualized forms.  The consciousness of human beings is given specific form by the culture in which they live and the particular occupation they carry on in everyday work.  But it is very good and healthful for their minds to become revitalized by collective experiences and deep feelings of undifferentiated unity as they merge in the vast refreshment of the planetary ‘Mother’ where ‘she’ is most dynamic, unlimited and unconfined by boundaries.”

Symbol Keyword:  *OCEANIC FEELING – Here we see the foundation on which coming developments will be based.  It is in a sense a biodynamic foundation, but it reaches beyond even the biosphere to what in all cosmic types of organization is the Mother-principle—for instance, galactic Space.  We may speak here of OCEANIC FEELING, born of attunement to the most basic rhythms of existence, at whatever level it might be.

 Putin’s Mercury is located in the 12 house on the 23^rd degree of Libra.  Mercury signifies the intellect.  It is known as the “Messenger of the Gods,” the communicator.  For the Soul-centered individual, the intellect acts as reflective lens for the Higher, Intuitive Mind.  “The Soul is the vehicle for the love aspect of Divinity.” [xi]

The Sabian symbol for the 23^rd degree of Libra is *Chanticleer’s Voice Heralds Sunrise*

Symbol Keynote:  *A creative and joyous response to life processes.*

Rudhyar’s Symbol Interpretation:  “The cock that crows as the first coloring of dawn appears at the eastern horizon is a beautiful symbol of the ability, demonstrated by all pioneers and cosmically attuned individuals, to give voice to what is as yet unmanifested, but is on the way to manifestation.  At the ego level, chanticleer may feel that he makes the sun rise; but someday he will learn through painful experiences that to create is only to reveal what essentially is.  It is the vivid recognition of the as-yet-unknown in the known.”

Symbol Keyword:  *RESPONSE TO LIFE’S RENEWALS – this symbol should make us think about issues we too often take for granted.  At every ‘sunrise’ there are a few isolated witnesses that herald the coming of a new day.  What is at stake here is the individual’s capacity of RESPONSE TO LIFE’S RENEWALS—renewals which are cyclic, predictable, yet always creative.*

Putin’s Ascendant or 1^st house cusp is on the 3^rd degree of Scorpio.  The Ascendant and 1^st house reveals how the general public views him … how he reveals himself to the public.  Expressing on a Soul-centered level, the Ascendant can reveal the emergence of Soul purpose and the activities of the Soul.  Scorpio is the primary sign of the 4^th Ray – The Ray of Harmony through Conflict – an agent of balance – the Ray of the Art of Living.  The 4^th Ray, through its attunement to the Intuitive Mind, “allows humankind to evolve to a place in which the intellect is transcended by a far deeper attunement and understanding of life.” [xiii]

The Sabian symbol for the 3^rd degree of Scorpio:  *A House-Raising Party in a Small Village Enlists the Neighbors’ Cooperation.*

Symbol Keynote:  *The feeling of community demonstrated in a basic joint effort.*

Rudhyar’s Symbol Interpretation:  “In rural neighborhoods, especially as the American West was being developed, the building of at least the framework of a house was often a collective, friendly enterprise.  Newcomers building their home-to-be found friendly helpers in their neighbors.  The sense of togetherness and participation in a common enterprise was developed by such collective work.  The home remains ‘our’ home, yet the whole community is involved in its erection and the welcome marking its completion.”

Symbol Keyword:  *COOPERATION – Feeling becomes activity.  The past and its memories are repolarized in terms of the expanded social consciousness.  From that activity a new sense of reality will derive.*

Putin became president of Russia only 8 years after the end of communist rule.  “On December 31, 1999, Yeltsin unexpectedly announced his resignation and named Putin acting president. Promising to rebuild a weakened Russia, the austere and reserved Putin easily won the March 2000 elections with about 53 percent of the vote. As president, he sought to end corruption and create a strongly regulated market economy.” [xiv]  His Ascendant expressing through the 4^th Ray of Harmony Thru Conflict immediately became evident as he sought to pull together a broken country and to return Russia to its former status as a great nation.

Putin’s Venus is located in his 1^st house on the 11^th degree of Scorpio.  Venus is the planet of Love, the natural harmonizer, the planetary vehicle for the expression of the 5^th Ray of Concrete Knowledge as “scientific research and experimentation in order that the Plan of Divinity may be revealed through the mind of man.”   Located in his 1^st house indicates that Putin will reveal his love nature and understanding of science to the general public.  He uses his love of marksmanship and hunting as a means of assisting scientists with their research.

Putin’s Venus is located on the 11^th degree of Scorpio.  Venus denotes the love nature; it is the planet of harmony, beauty, refinement, cooperation, appreciation of the arts, and unity.  Venus assists in developing an awareness of others.

Putin tickles the ivories for a crowd at the Theatre of Nations in Moscow. He often plays the patriotic song “From What the Motherland Begins” and the “Anthem of Saint Petersburg,” his hometown jam.[xvii]

The Sabian symbol for 11^th degree of Scorpio:  *A Drowning Man Is Being Rescued.*

Symbol’s Keynote:  *The deep concern of the social group for the safety of individuals.*

Rudhyar’s Symbol Interpretation:  “This symbol should be interpreted as revealing the basic feeling of relationship between the individual and his fellow-men.  What is pictured is the expression of this relationship rather than the experience of the person who, carelessly perhaps, ventured too far beyond his depth and then was given a ‘second chance’ to live.  A man risks his life to save another:  this is love, based on a sense of responsibility produced by a vivid sense of interrelatedness.  Sustained by this love, the individual may be more secure in venturing forth; but this assurance can also lead to unwarranted daring and trust.”

Symbol Keyword:  *HUMANITARIANISM – The concern of the social whole for any one of its parts, even if this concern is merely the spontaneous act of rescue performed by a chance bystander.*

[As Prime Minister], “Vladimir Putin took the reconstruction of homes and compensation for victims of the wildfires in the summer of 2010 under his personal control.

Round-the-clock monitoring was set up at the sites where new housing was being built for the fire victims. Video cameras working 24 hours a day were installed at all of the main sites. The construction work could be followed on monitors at the Government House, at Vladimir Putin’s residence, and on the Government website. Families of those killed by the fires received 1 million rubles [$33,000] in compensation, and each member of families affected by the fires received 100,000 rubles. All of the people whose homes were destroyed received new homes or apartments by the start of winter, or, at their request, received monetary compensation. A total of 2,200 families built new homes.” [xviii]

Venus has only one major aspect and, although it is a very positive aspect, it is not a close one – Venus trine Uranus.  A lesson he is likely still learning is to balance his need for love with his need for freedom.

Three years after their first meeting, Vladimir proposed to Lyudmila. “I knew that if I did not marry for another two or three years, I would not marry at all. True, I was used to life as a bachelor, but Lyudmila changed that,” Mr Putin admits. They got married on July 28, 1983.[xix]

 Putin’s 2^nd house cusp is located on the 29^th degree of Scorpio.  The 2^nd house deals with financial resources, attitude toward money, material and spiritual values.

The Sabian symbol for the 29^th degree of Scorpio:  *An Indian squaw pleading to the chief for the lives of her children.*

Symbol Keynote:  *Love as a principle of redemption.*

Rudhyar’s Symbol Interpretation:  “Here the soul is presented as a mother whose sons (i.e. her active energies) have become disruptive forces in the collective life of the tribe.  She seeks to counteract the karma of their misdeeds through her love and implorations.  The soul is responsive to the experience of unity (the spiritual king or chief) but the energies of human nature often follow their self-seeking, divisive tendencies.”

Symbol Keyword:  *INTERCESSION – It presents us with the value of prayer.  The principle of wholeness in man—the soul—acts to offset or attenuate the dictates of karma.  In a religious sense, Mary, the Mother, is seen as the Mediatrix, in constant acts of INTERCESSION for the sake of waylaid individuals.*

The zodiac sign energy of Sagittarius is intercepted in the 2^nd house, indicating that Putin is still learning the most beneficial ways in which to acquire and integrate spiritual wisdom into his life’s expression.  The intercepted energy creates obstacles or challenges to a smooth expression as a means of assisting the Soul to learn.

Sagittarius and the planet Mars are both avenues through which the 6^th Ray of Devotion & Idealism is expressed.  Devotion to orthodoxy is strongly characteristic of the 6^th Ray, finding expression in religious wars, the Christian Inquisition, and the insistence of religious groups to express the ideal Baptist, Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Presbyterian, Islamic, Judaism, etc. doctrines.  The many disagreements within segments of each religion have been expressions of the 6^th Ray.  Now that the Piscean Age with its 6^th Ray expression is over and we have entered the Aquarian Age with its 7^th Ray expression, we will see a gradual dwindling of devotion to orthodoxy; religions will eventually no longer exist.

Putin’s Mars is in the 2^nd house and located on the 26^th degree of intercepted Sagittarius.  Mars represents the desire nature.  It grants the desire to take action, to accomplish and progress in the external world.  Mars is the planet of battles with others and self; it takes us on the journey of self-mastery.

This article is an excellent example:  MOSCOW, August 1, 2013 – Vladimir Putin has urged the world’s political leaders to stop the violent persecutions against Christians that have erupted in many Middle Eastern countries.

Speaking at a meeting with Orthodox Christian leaders in Moscow last week, the Russian President said he noted “with alarm” that “in many of the world’s regions, especially in the Middle East and in North Africa inter-confessional tensions are mounting, and the rights of religious minorities are infringed, including Christians and Orthodox Christians.”

“This pressing problem should be a subject of close attention for the entire international community,” Putin said. “It is especially important today to make efforts to prevent intercultural and interreligious conflicts, which are fraught with the most serious upheavals.”

Putin praised the growth of cooperation between the Orthodox Churches and the Russian state, saying, “We act as genuine partners and colleagues to solve the most pressing domestic and international tasks, to implement joint initiatives for the benefit of our country and people.”

The Russian Federation recently passed legislation making it illegal to promote homosexuality as normal, a move that, while condemned by many European leaders, was strongly supported by the Orthodox Church.

Putin added Thursday that the Church was giving Russians a moral compass when so many were looking for help. “Today when people are once again searching for moral support, millions of our compatriots see it in religion,” he said. “They trust the wise, pastoral word of the Russian Orthodox Church.”

He added that it was the Church that was ultimately responsible for the development and rise of “culture and education” in Russia over the last 1,000 years. “The adoption of Christianity became a turning point in the fate of our fatherland, made it an inseparable part of the Christian civilization and helped it turn into one of the largest world powers,” Putin said.[xxi]

 Putin’s  5^th house cusp is located on the 24^th degree of Pisces.  The 5^th house deals with children, love relationships (not marriage relationships), creativity—“How do I express my individual uniqueness?”  It is where we learn to express love by merging our creative expression with the Divine Plan and serving.

International media is erupting with cries against Sochi’s inhumane stray dog cull, and many are calling on Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to end the city-wide extermination. And they may just be barking up the right tree — Putin is known for his love of dogs, and been photographed with pups many times. “That is true. All my activity is linked to public affairs … and there are people who are totally incompatible with that,”

Putin said. He added with a chuckle: “Lyudmila Alexandrovna has done her shift.”

Lyudmila said: “Vladimir Vladimirovich is completely submerged in his work. Our children have grown up, each of them is living her own life. … And I truly don’t like publicity.”

Putin added: “Lyudmila Alexandrovna and I will always remain close – forever, I am sure.”

Neither clarified whether their marriage was legally dissolved, although Lyudmila said it was a “civilised divorce”. Putin’s spokesman said he did not know.

“They separated a long time ago,” Dmitry Peskov said. “I don’t know if the divorce has been formalised, but I can confirm that we are talking about a civilised divorce.” [xxxix]

Three years after their first meeting, Vladimir proposed to Lyudmila. “I knew that if I did not marry for another two or three years, I would not marry at all.  “They ask me one and the same question over and over again. What good things has Putin done for Russia during the recent ten years? Every time, when I hear people saying this, it surprises me how quickly people can forget things. It seems that they have forgotten a lot about the 1990s….

Do they remember the morale which we had during the second half of the 1990s? Everyone would think that tomorrow would be much worse than today. When Putin was saying that the national GDP would double, everyone thought that he was just joking.

Do they remember the grocery stores of the 1990s? They were not Soviet-like anymore, but they were not Western-like either. They were tiny, dirty and there was not much to choose from. Do they remember so-called shuttle traders who lived at the expense of the underdeveloped commercial system? Do they remember the total absence of consumer loans, credit cards, large supermarkets and many other types of consumer infrastructure?

Do they remember the average salary of $100, which would make such things as buying new cars and booking holidays abroad a luxury?

Do they remember the Russian style of business which was prospering during the 1990s? Commodity bases in dirty basements, big and bald-headed guys in tracksuits, illegal salaries in dollars – do they remember?

Do they remember that infamous jealousy to Europeans and Americans, who had to work for just one month to afford a powerful computer? Do they remember the Internet which which was ten times as faster and ten times as cheaper in the West?

I remember all of that very well. That is why, when somebody asks me about the positive changes in the country during the recent ten years, I just want to laugh. A lot of things have changed in the country, people, really a lot.

Russia today is a normal European country which is quite affordable for living. Of course, the country has too many problems, but it is not the impoverished Russia, in which the average pension was $20. It is not the country where the IMF can be the boss.

Putin, I am sorry, is not the governor of God on this earth. He is just the prime minister now, and he used to be just the president before that. That is why I believe it is not fair to hold Putin accountable for, let’s say, Ivan’s miserable life.

I tried to picture myself as the head of Russia. I tried to think what I would do if I were in Putin’s shoes during the recent decade. Do you know what occurred to me?  I thought that all of my reforms which I mentioned in this article, would be brutally criticized by the people of Russia. Unfortunately, 18 years of capitalism is so not enough to make the Soviet people stop dreaming about a severe strongman as their leader.

I dare say that corruption in Russia exists not because of those greasy officials that sit on every level of the vertical of power. The pyramid of corruption is just a consequence of rabid Soviet negligence, which makes electors hate those politicians who propose the reforms that can reduce corruption.

Contrary to what Russian pseudo-democratic and pseudo-liberal mass media might say, Putin is not the spiritual successor of Stalin. Putin is more than just a democratic politician. He has to put on Stalin’s coat every now and then so that people could see him as their strongman.”

The acceptance of — and appetite for — democracy is much less evident today among the publics of the former Soviet republics of Russia and Ukraine, who lived the longest under communism.

 A majority of Russians (54%) agree with the statement Russia should be for Russians; just 26% agreed with that statement in 1991.

 Moreover, even as they embrace free market capitalism, fully 58% of Russians agree that it is a great misfortune that the Soviet Union no longer exist. And nearly half (47%) say it is natural for Russia to have an empire.””
